The PJC softball team made it to their first ever state championship game but came up short against Tallahassee Community College, losing the first game 7-4 and the second game 7-6. The second game lasted 11 innings before the 6-6 tie was broken.
"We're a little bummed out right now," said assistant coach Pete Pena.

Chris Drain, Danica Spears, and I arrived yesterday at the Holiday Inn in Winter Haven, to cover the 2008 state baseball tournament. It was a fairly pleasant drive, although we left later than we should have. That was mostly my fault.
We used this morning to take in our surroundings and get to know the area a little.

At an award's ceremony in Winter Haven last night, the night before the baseball state tournament gets underway, it was announced that three PJC players made first-team All-State and two made second-team All-State.
Left fielder Robert Beary, First baseman Ryan Ditthardt and second baseman David Poutier made the first-team while third baseman Kyle Marks and pitcher Blaine Howell made the second team.

Whatever will and energy PJC had in Sunday's 11-1 win over Broward was absent during Monday's game against Chipola. Facing elimination in the 2008 Florida Community College Activities Association Tournament, the Pirates needed to get past their conference rivals with an exhausted team.

Tournament favorites Miami-Dade and Pensacola Junior College are now in the same boat. No, they're not meeting in tomorrow night's spotlight game of the state tournament. They've both been upset and will be hanging on for dear life. They've also been upset by the same team, Manatee Community College.
